Emma's Romanian Return

Our wonderful volunteer Emma first visited our Romanian foster in Uricani last year with another OUR volunteer. The trip made such an impact on Emma that she visited again this month, this time on her own, to meet more dogs and provide more hands-on support to our busiest foster.

Emma spent the week working with the dogs at Alina's place in the Uricani countryside. She met all of the dogs that Alina takes care of, including some of the dogs that will be coming to the UK next week to meet their new owners. Alina's son has been taking care of 7 puppies that were born on Bonfire Night, just after their mum was saved from the kill shelter, and Emma spent lots of time with them, helping to get them vaccinated and to get their passports ready for their journey to their new homes. She also took countless videos and photos for the new adopters waiting patiently back in the UK for their pups to arrive.

At OUR Dog Foundation, we try to make it as easy as possible for people to adopt our dogs and for them to fit into their new homes with fellow pets. Emma spent some time during the week performing cat testing, to see which dogs had a natural prey instinct towards Alina's resident cats, and which were fine and could therefore be homed with cats in the future.

There was sadness in Emma's visit too, when she helped Alina to rescue three young puppies from the kill shelter.

The pups were being kept in awful conditions and terrified when they were taken to Alina's foster home, but they soon settled down and were making great progress until one sadly started showing signs of parvovirus which is rife in the kill shelter.

The beautiful puppy, named Kiyo, didn't pull through, but he was held by Emma and Alina in his last moments, knowing he was loved and cared for at the end of his life.

Emma's trip to Romania has highlighted the terrible state of the kill shelters, and how important the work we are doing here at OUR Dog Foundation is to save these innocent dogs.

Thank you so much Emma for everything you do for us!
