OUR 2023
It’s been a busy year at OUR Dog Foundation - but the best news is that we’ve brought 70 dogs over from Romania to the UK since January - and we already have 7 more booked for the Happy Bus in January 2024.
We’ve brought more dogs over into foster than in previous years too, and are always on the lookout for more fosters to join our team. A special thanks to volunteer Natalie for doing so much work with fosters this year, and for taking charge of our first fully-UK adoption with the gorgeous UK rescue dog Rudy.
We had some successful rescue missions this year. We saved the gorgeous P-pups from the awful Roman shelter back in June, and had two rescue missions in April with the bridge and train pups. It’s wonderful that all pups and mums are now in their forever homes in the UK. The PowerPuff girls were also rescued from the side of the road in June and while 3 are already in the UK, Bubbles will be travelling over into foster in January.
We’ve been trying our best to do as much fundraising as possible and would like to thank volunteer Beth who’s been putting a lot of work into this. We had a merchandise raffle back in January, plus raffles for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Our beauty advent calendar did really well in December too - thank you to everyone that supports these competitions as they really do bring in much-needed extra funds. We’ve also launched some regular fundraising events such as £2 Tuesday and our initiative to buy food for the older dogs in Alina’s care.
Our shop had a restock this year too - thanks to Beth and Jade for all of your help on this. We’ve been stocking the items that our supporters are the most interested in - if you have any requests, please let us know - and remember that all of the profits from our shop go directly to helping dogs in Romania.
Our wonderful volunteer Emma visited Alina in Romania twice this year - first in April and then in September. Her assessments of the dogs over there, and the hundreds of photos that she takes of the dogs, help us so much to find homes for them. She always comes back with some great stories too!
Sadly, we had a few surrenders in the UK, which always cause a lot of heartache and stress, especially when the dog hasn’t been vaccinated so we can’t even move them to a kennel in an emergency. Kennels come at a huge cost too - just having Reggie in a kennel costs us £13 per day - around £400 per month that should be going to save dogs in Romania.
On a happier note, we welcomed another two volunteers to the team this year - Sarah will be helping out with adoptions and correspondence, and Naomi will be providing some much-needed help with our accounts. Thank you so much to our volunteers for giving up your spare time to help our wonderful dogs. A huge thank you to our supporters too - and here’s to an even more successful 2024!
