Sunday Success: Meet Lyra!

Meet Lyra. She is one of the firework pups born in the safety of our Romanian Rescue on Bonfire Night in 2021 after her heavily pregnant mum Sasha was saved from the kill shelter. Known as Flame then, she came to the UK in March 2022 with her brothers and sisters who all went into adoptive homes.

Lyra was adopted by Sue and Dorian, who had lost their beloved border collie Murphy the previous year, and adopted Clive, one of the OUR C Pups, who was settling in brilliantly. As their other dog Sky was getting on in years, they decided Clive would love a younger sibling, and he and Lyra have been best friends ever since. They love playing together in the garden and house, and can even eat in the same room after working on Lyra trying to steal Clive's food once she'd finished eating her own.

Lyra is wary of strangers, and visitors to the house need to be introduced slowly. She can also show signs of reactivity on walks, but this is all being worked on and she's coming on in leaps and bounds. Along with playtime with Clive, Lyra loves nothing more than cuddling up to her mum and Aunty Jen. She's a complete softie, sleeping between Sue and Dorian on their bed every night and lying under their desks while they work from home.

Sue says "I can't imagine life without this gorgeous ball of fluff. She's got the sweetest personality and loves her toys, her food, walkies and fuss."

Unfortunately not all of the firework pups have been as lucky as Lyra to find their forever homes. Poor Bentley was surrendered by his adopters after less than 6 months, going to a foster home before finding what we thought was his forever home in July 2023. After travelling all of the way to North Scotland and finally showing signs of settling in, his new adopter needed surgery and decided she could no longer look after him. Thankfully we found the wonderful Beloved Kennels in Gloucestershire and they were happy to take on Bentley. Again, we thought we'd found another perfect home for him in Scotland, but this didn't work out either, so poor Bently is still in kennels. We've taken a break from advertising him for adoption while we work on some health issues he's been going through, but he's doing really well at the kennels, making lots of friends and gaining both weight and confidence.

It's sad to think that while Lyra and the other firework pups are all in wonderful loving homes, poor Bentley is still in kennels, which we desperately need to raise funds for each month.
