Sunday Success Story: Maggie

In today's heartwarming tale, we shine a light on the remarkable journey of Maggie, the waggly-bummed fluffy sheep-lookalike.

Maggie's story began in April 2021 when she was rescued from the Roman kill shelter, finding temporary refuge under the care of Irina before transitioning to the compassionate hands of Alina Cartigiu. At first, Maggie was reserved, choosing to remain in her kennel in solitude with her coat tangled and neglected: her nervousness and fear aggression made any grooming attempts futile. Eventually, the situation became so dire that sedation was required to provide her with the grooming that she so desperately needed.

Eventually Maggie was moved to the nurturing care of Alina in Uricani, where she showed signs of progress, though her shyness persisted. It wasn't until she found solace within Alina's home that her confidence began to blossom, revealing her need for a permanent foster home in the UK. Enter Sarah, who opened her heart and home to Maggie in January 2024.

Since then, Maggie has been thriving, showing remarkable strides with each passing day. Her journey is a testament to the transformative power of love, care, and the unwavering dedication of individuals committed to making a difference in the lives of dogs like Maggie. We can’t wait to see her journey progress even further now that Sarah has become her forever mummy (another OUR member of the failed foster club ).

Here’s what Sarah had to say about her new family member:

‘When Maggie first arrived I thought the team had sent me a sheep instead of a dog. She was not only the fluffiest dog I had seen but also the most terrified. She wouldn’t raise her head and she would cower to the floor.

Deep down I knew when Maggie arrived she would make me a failed foster. It took her almost a week before she would wag her tail and another week for her to leave her room. We do everything at Maggie’s pace. If she isn’t ready she retreats back to her safe space.

Having said that, Maggie has really come out of her shell. She now goes outside at least once a day. She has let me trim her hair. She lets me brush her. I can even get sparkly pink clips in her hair, she doesn’t always look impressed with them but she does look cute. She will join me in the living room but only to go to the toilet the important thing is she is in a different room.

Anytime I open anything in the kitchen she will shuffle up behind me and start wiggling with excitement in the hope it is a treat for her.

Maggie’s little head tilt, smile and wiggly bum fill me with so much love. I know now I need Maggie just as much as she needs me. She may not be ready to join me on the sofa just yet but I’ll happily wait for the day she does. She will always be my shufflebutt sheep’.
