Meet Toffee!

Toffee is just 1½ years old and weighs approximately 20kg. She is medium-sized, with a soft scruffy coat and an even softer nature.

When our volunteers found her in October, they were actually leaving for the airport after visiting the shelter. But there she was - with her young son, Popcorn - and it was immediately clear she had recently been dumped. She was thin and starving, eating anything she could find on the floor next to the bins where they had been left, discarded like rubbish.

There were strong indents in her fur around her neck, suggesting that before being abandoned, Toffee likely spent much of her life chained. Despite that, she stayed close to her son and looked to people with quiet hope.

At first, Toffee struggled around other dogs - not because she is aggressive, but because she was so desperately hungry she felt she had to fight to survive. Now that she knows food is regular and she is safe, that fear has melted away. Toffee is now great with other dogs and can happily live with canine companions. She has not been tested with cats or children. Toffee is really friendly with people, often jumping up to get some attention.

Her son Popcorn has already left Romania to begin his new life, and while we are overjoyed for him, we long to see Toffee get her chance too. She has done an incredible job raising her baby and surviving hardship - now it is her turn to be someone’s baby.

Toffee deserves a home where she will never know hunger, chains, or abandonment again. A home where she can feel grass under her paws, a warm bed at night, and gentle hands that will only ever show kindness.

Popcorn’s happy ending has begun. Let’s make sure Toffee’s is right around the corner.
