Sunday Success: Emily and Luna
Meet Luna and Emily, two beautiful rescue dogs who found their forever home with Tracey and her wonderful family! Luna was a bit shy at first, but with the help of her new best friend Emily, she’s gained so much confidence. These two are now inseparable, enjoying every moment together and thriving in their loving home.
Here’s what Tracey had to say about her two precious OUR girls…
“We'd had two dogs previously from a rescue in the UK. We lost Fizz to a rare blood disease many years ago, then Coco went over the rainbow bridge during the pandemic in August 2020 due to a tumour near her heart, but she'd lived to a ripe old age.
We got to January 2021 and felt the house was so empty without a dog, so we started the search of rescues for a dog to join our home.
Someone we knew recommended OUR Dog Foundation. We looked on their Facebook page & spotted Lilly (now Luna) and her sisters. We decided to enquire and OUR Dog messaged back to ask a bit more about our experience with dogs before asking us to fill in an adoption form. We filled it in and hoped we'd be accepted and we were.
A few weeks later, on 22 February 2021, Luna arrived on the happy bus. She was very nervous. We set up a cardboard box in a corner with fleece blankets so she could hide away and decompress. In the days after arriving, she wasn't happy about being picked up or touched so we had to be patient and gain her trust. Over the next few weeks, she got braver and explored the house but was terrified outside and ran back inside. It took a lot of time (and chicken!) to get her to go outside. Once she realised it was OK, she wanted to be out in garden all the time. Luna became very attached to me, my little shadow, but over time she's gained confidence. It takes time for her to get used to anything new and we've got used to that so just work around it.
With Luna being such a nervous dog, we weren't sure if we'd be able to get her to accept another dog. So we resigned ourselves to just having Luna. That was until May 2023, when we saw Emily and her family: the train pups. My husband kept showing me pics of Emily, saying how cute she was. After the fifth time of asking, I said "get her sponsored then!". We spoke with OUR about our situation and they felt that as Emily was a more confident character, it would possibly help Luna to come out of her shell.
So… Emily arrived at 3am on 1st of September. After two weeks of being separated by a gate and lots of barking from Luna, they were trying to play together through the gate. Slowly, we gave them time together until one day they played chase in the garden. I cried: it was so good to see Luna having fun with another dog!
Fast forward, a year and they've settled so well together. Emily's character has really come out now. She likes to whine at us, wag her tail and stamp her little feet if she wants a toy, to go outside or have some of our food. She loves to look at the local cats out of the window with Luna, while both making lots of noise. And, everyone has to move out of the way when they both get the zoomies!
They look so cute with Luna and her long legs, and Emily, the opposite with her short little legs.”
A huge thank you to Tracey and her family for giving Luna and Emily the life they deserve!
