Sunday Success: Lucy’s Story

🌟 Sunday Success Story! 🌟

Meet Lucy, a sweet rescue lady saved from a kill shelter during an Ovidio rescue mission in February 2021. Her heartbreaking images touched many, but one hero stepped up to change her life forever.

The wonderful Jason saw her story and immediately sponsored her. Within 24 hours, he applied to adopt her, making her a sister to his other Romanian rescues, Bobby and Eliza. Lucy spent 10 weeks with her foster Madalina in Romania before making her way to her forever home in the UK.

Here’s what Jason had to say about life with Lucy…

“Lucy was adopted by myself and Angela in February 2021. We first came across Lucy via an urgent appeal on the O.U.R Dog Foundation

Facebook page to get several dogs out of the Ovidiu kill shelter. Lucy and her fellow companions suffered terrible abuse and living

conditions during their stay and needed to be saved. Thankfully all dogs became sponsored and were released a few days later.

Lucy was delivered in mid-April via the happy bus 72 hours after setting off on a long road journey from Romania. Within an hour of

arriving and having an explore of the garden, she was made to feel welcomed by her fellow Rommie rescues Bobby and Eliza.

In around a week or so after adjusting to her new surroundings, Lucy was starting to settle well with us. Knowing she was beginning to feel

safe, fed, loved and having a comfy bed to sleep on. We had no issues with taking Lucy on a walk around the beach and countryside which

is nearby, however, passing vans, buses and motorcycles were making her very timid and scared (they still do today but guess we will never know her background as to why?).

Four months later, Lucy was trusted off the lead and enjoying the freedom of chasing Bobby up and down the fields and understanding recall quickly!

Lucy is such a low maintenance dog, very clean in the house, loves her walks and spends a lot of time sleeping in her bed in the living room or upstairs on the landing. Lucy has developed a howl which sounds like ‘Chewbacca’ from Star Wars and usually when it’s feeding time or when there is a bird in the garden to chase! She loves going to

the local dog groomers every 3 months and had learnt not to be afraid of the noisy hairdryer after a few visits.

Lucy’s story become the inspiration for fundraising ideas and after a quick appeal enough money was raised to have the O.U.R Dog

Foundation logo proudly on the Harwich and Parkeston ladies football shirts in 2022 to help generate more exposure to a wider audience.

This then led to an idea to myself captaining O.U.R Dog Foundation’s very first darts teams in Harwich in 2023 with some of my most

supportive team mates and the fundraising has been very successful along the way helping to save more dogs like Lucy!

Another fundraising campaign was started to enable O.U.R Dog Foundation to sponsor the Essex County Darts team. The logo is visible on You Tube when all the matches are streamed live and again, promotes to a wider audience around the whole of the Uk.

Three years on and Lucy brings so much joy to our family and can safely

say she landed on her paws living with us!”

Jason's decision to adopt from OUR Dog Foundation didn’t just transform Lucy’s life; it also brought us one of our most dedicated supporters. Jason and his amazing network have tirelessly raised awareness and thousands of pounds to save even more dogs. We are incredibly grateful for his ongoing support.

Here's to Jason, Lucy, and every hero out there making a difference! 🐾💖 #RescueDog #AdoptionSuccess #sundaysuccess #adoptdontshop
