Sunday Success: Rosieās Story
š¾ **Sunday Success Story ā Rosieās Journey Home** š¾
When Rosie (formerly Baboo) arrived in the UK from Romania in January 2023, she had no idea what the future held. But thanks to the love and patience of her adopters, Sara and Paul, sheās now a cherished member of their familyāalongside their rescue cat, Luna!
Life together hasnāt always been plain sailing, and like many rescue dogs, Rosie had some teething issues to work through. But with time, trust, and plenty of love, sheās come into her own, showing her true personality and settling into the happy home she deserves.
Sara explainedā¦
"Rosie (was Baboo) came to us late on a cold January evening two years ago. She did not have the best journey over and after a couple of days delay, we went to collect her, meeting the van at 1am in a run-down Northampton back street! We carried her from the van into our car! She was timid, quiet, and a bit more dog than we expected! We drove home and she did not make a sound. No doubt all three of us were apprehensive but I hope she felt some sense of the excitment we felt in giving her a new life here in the UK.
This new life was not a straight forward or easy process: our house is very open plan and so it proved very hard to keep Rosie and our cat, Luna, away from each other. On several occasions Rosie seemed to go for Luna and so began the strict segregation, installing stairgates (which Rosie jumped over with ease time and time again!) and a 24/7 monitoring process. The saving grace was that Rosie took to a crate really well and was willing and content to be crated overnight allowing Luna a bit of freedom and safety.
Those first three months were incredibly hard and stressful, especially as it was the first time we had owned a dog since childhood and sometimes things felt very overwhelming. It was at these times that Our Dog Foundation were there to offer words of encouragement, hope, ideas and suggestions to make life easier. Over time and as the decompression turned from weeks to months, Rosie learnt to accept Lunaās presence and in a sense her dominance - we joke that the whole house is happiest when we remember Luna is the boss!
Rosie attends doggy day care a couple of times a week now and we have learnt that she is a stickler for the rules. Whether it is other dogs playing or the cats at home, she likes everyone to follow the rules and behave!
Itās not always been easy, but weāre in a pretty good place now. So much so that we have recently housed a new feral kitten, who is of course utterly lawless but who has clearly found a pal in Rosie. She is a very happy, social dog, who is very accepting and affectionate. She loves to play, is full of beans and likes nothing better than walking or running with us in the woods.
It has been an education to us both: the sheer level of commitment for a start. Rosie is an incredible dog she gives us so much and is life-expanding. We meet other dogs and their companions everyday, see new places and old places in a new light, the seasonal changes, weather and light. We exercise a lot, and reap the rewards of her loving and joyful nature.ā
We couldnāt be happier for Rosie and her wonderful family! Thank you, Sara and Paul, for giving her the chance to shine. ā¤ļø
