Update: Adoptions & Transport on Hold Until the New Year
We wanted to let everyone know that, due to new UK regulations around brucellosis testing, we’ve made the difficult decision to pause all adoptions and transports to the UK until the New Year.
The new rules mean all brucellosis tests must now be carried out in UK-approved laboratories. This involves collecting blood samples in Romania, sending them to the UK, and waiting for results before any dog can travel. Unfortunately, tests done in Romania are no longer accepted and there are some confusions with many vets in Romania due to restrictions the Romanian government has attempted to impose as well.
It is so important to make sure that, us, our vets and our transporters are all clear on the rules to make sure we are not only getting it right - but not wasting desperately needed funds on tests that won’t get approved if there is an error on our end!
We have had a single case at one of our shelters, she has been isolated with an elderly dog who is unable to leave, having no contact with other dogs. We’re fully committed to following the new process correctly. However, it’s a big change, and we don’t want to rush things and risk any problems.
Before the end of the year, we’ll be setting up everything needed to make this work — including working with our vets, transporters and arranging safe, quick transport for blood samples.
These new requirements do come with higher costs and extra paperwork, so from the New Year, our adoption fees will be increasing slightly, and UK transports will be less frequent to allow time for all the new testing steps.
We know this is frustrating and disappointing — we feel it too, deeply. But our priority is getting everything right so our dogs can continue travelling safely to their new families in the UK. Thank you all so much for your patience and support while we adjust.
We can’t wait to have dogs on the road again in the New Year, sending happy dogs to loving homes where they belong.
