Weekly Focus: Herbie!

This week's highlight is on the one and only Herbie (Herbs). An adorable little man with a great moustache who is currently living his life in Worcester.

Herbie is a special little soul. He has many concerns about life, but don’t we all? He LOVES his people - once you have found your way into this boy's heart, he will be by your side forever, and he loves to reach up for hugs!

He has made amazing steps since arriving at the kennels. The world isn’t so bright and spooky anymore, and while literally everything spooked him on arrival, he now accepts new toys and treats, and even is happy to wear a harness which has been an amazing step forward.

New volunteer Liv recently visited Herbie in his current home at Beloved Dogs Kennels and has seen for herself how exceptionally brave he has become. She was a complete stranger, and is tall, yet he let her walk him, even if he did stare into her very soul and judge her for the direction she was taking him in - this was understandable, as it turned out to be a bad direction. On another visit, he fell head-over-heels for Beth, one of our long-term volunteers and immediately demanded cuddles from her. He also has a girlfriend at the kennels, so he certainly has the charisma!

Herbie’s perfect home would be out in the British countryside. At the tender age of three years old, Herbie is ready for his retirement in the country. He would also quite like to meet and make acquaintances with any family who wishes to facilitate his retirement, so he has a chance to woo them before making the big move out of kennels and into his forever home.

Herbie at the moment, prefers females, both humans and dogs. However, he has made great strides into letting some men into his life. He is now happy to let some of the male kennel workers take him for a stroll, so maybe with time, and visits, he may accept a male companion in his life.

Just be prepared that Herbie will need time to decompress. Herbie is a man who enjoys his routine and safe spots. The uplift will likely make him nervous for a time, but that is normal. With love, affection and whatever treats you can offer him, his heart will open up and his gentle personality will shine. A spare room would be a perfect space for him to unwind, relax and enjoy his retirement years - albeit at only three years of age!
