OUR Weekly Highlight: Reggie
Today’s weekly highlight is on Reggie (Small edition)—an eight-month pup hoping to find his forever home.
Reggie is currently living in London but is struggling with the busyness and loudness of the city (who doesn’t, to be honest). So he is hoping to find his own forever family in a nice, quiet place.
Currently, Reggie is struggling with his walks. Again, London is a loud and busy place that the boy finds overwhelming and a little bit too much. He ends up getting himself in a panic and wants to retreat back to his safe space. He also currently lives in an apartment, so does not have green space to call his own.
However, when taken outside of the city, he thrives. He has a strong desire to explore the world away from the hustle and bustle. He has shown to be a confident fella when he feels safe and has the space that he needs to prosper. Reggie does show some reactivity when in the city, but this seems to almost vanish when he is out in the countryside or in quieter spots.
When at home, Reggie is a snuggler. He loves human companionship and can be easily befriended with food offerings. He will flop onto his back and give a good wiggle to try and allure you into giving him the attention he desires (and frankly deserves).
He loves enrichment toys—lick mats and slow feeders are a big win for him. He also adores his chews and Kongs. He loves enrichment activities as well, free work, rucksack walks, anything to give his brain a thorough exercise. If his new family wants to as well, we think he would be an excellent agility dog if you wish to give that whirl in the future!
Due to his love of human companionship, he does have separation anxiety. At first, he will need someone around him full time. He does panic when his people leave him, and struggles to be alone. However, you will be helped by our behaviourist. He is still a young pup, so there is plenty of room for him to grow and improve. He simply needs patience, understanding and time.
Reggie also has a large list of quirks. He loves to chase flies, so if you need a pro bug exterminator. He is your guy. He also LOVES shredding cardboard, so again, if you need a free shredder, he will be happy to help. Though be warned, he will try to hide his prizes (Especially toilet roll tubes) so get ready to play find the shredded cardboard with him. He has shown a bit of resource guarding, but only on very highly desirable treats (specifically bones). He has however, allowed his people to take things out of his mouth, when they’ve been quick enough!
He is known to be a complete goofball, and there hasn’t been a day where he hasn’t managed to make his people laugh. He is a complete loon who loves to throw his toys around anywhere he can.
Reggie is also highly intelligent. He already knows a variety of tricks. He can sit, lie, wait and can even kiss your hand on command. However, he is crafty! And will regularly try and distract you to steal your laundry off the racks. On the other side, he is also rather clumsy. Unaware that he is not a puppy anymore, he will occasionally accidentally roll himself off your bed or couch.
Reggie truly is a lovely dog with a grand sense of humour —he just needs to be given the chance to grow and settle in the right, calm environment. The world is loud and vibrant, and Reggie needs to learn and be guided to become a confident and fun-loving pup.
