Sunday Success: Loki’s Story

Some rescue stories stay with us forever, and Locket’s is one of them.

It all started when Alina alerted us to a mother dog, Lynx, chained up in a garden—no longer wanted by her owners. With her was her young pup, Locket. Their fate, had they been sent to PS Uricani, would have been bleak. But thanks to the kindness of our supporters, we found sponsors, and Iuli stepped in to rescue them, bringing them to the safety of the shelter.

From the moment he was freed, Locket showed us what a special boy he was—gentle, loving, and eager for affection. Once he was de-flead, cleaned up, and vaccinated, he was ready for the biggest journey of his life: to his forever home in the UK.

Jill and Paul fell in love with him and knew he would make the perfect companion for their rescue dog, Bella. In June 2024, Locket—now known as Loki—made the trip to the UK and straight into their hearts.

Fast forward to today, and Loki couldn’t be living a happier life. He’s settled in beautifully, formed an incredible bond with Bella and has embraced every new experience with confidence. From doggy daycare to beach trips, café visits, and even weekly outings to a care home, Loki has gone from a scared puppy to a beloved gentle giant.

But don’t just take our word for it—here’s what Jill had to say about their experience of adopting Loki…

“Loki arrived in the UK on June 18th 2024 at 11:18am and was greeted with open hearts and bowl full of chicken and rice :)

Loki was a scared and an unsure puppy of just six months - if he only knew, that his forever home was right in front of him and all his worried days were behind him.

The first few weeks of Loki arriving we were adamant that making Loki feel loved and secure were paramount which is why we slept downstairs on the sofa together. On the 2nd day Loki was introduced to another rescue we have, Bella,  a Shih Tzu rescue who we’ve had for 2 years. The first meeting couldn’t have gone any better and both got on well although slightly weary of each other which soon changed on day 4 where they ate and slept together in the same room.

The ‘Rule of 3’ that are set out by the foundation are absolutely spot on, as we saw changes in Loki’s behaviour as he began to settle in. Although, the trust and bond we had with him was fairly instant and it’s only grown stronger over the last nine months.

Loki enjoys company whether it’s 2-legged or 4-legged friends, especially at Doggy Day Care which he goes to on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s so important to have routine which he does as he definitely knows which days Doggy Day Care is. Loki also enjoys day trips to the beach and we’ve even met up with a Miortic Dog Group as we believe Loki has physical and mental similarities.

Loki’s things he likes to do:

  • Visiting a residential home care home for the elderly on a weekly basis to offer them cuddles

  • Visiting coffee shops especially for toast and butter and fuss of customers

  • Loves going to the local pub where he meets the other dog ‘regulars’

  • Loves going on getaways especially dog-friendly holidays

  • Met up with his best mate from Romania

  • Doggy Day Care

  • Day trips out to food markets or car boots

He’s been an absolute gentleman in the house as he’s never chewed or messed. He loves to travel in the car, which was something we had reservations about due to the 4 day trip to the UK, but he’s overcome the car journey very quickly of having him and no matter the distance he has no issues at all.

We highly recommend OUR Dog Foundation as the support and after care is second to none”.

Thank you, Jill and Paul, for opening your hearts and home to this incredible boy. And thank you to everyone who supports our mission—your kindness makes stories like Loki’s possible!
