Meet Maya!

Maya is an 8-year-old girl with the most gentle soul and a heart full of love. She is a three-legged dog, but don’t let that fool you - she gets around beautifully and doesn’t let it slow her down. Maya is affectionate and truly happiest when she’s close to the humans she loves.

Maya’s life has been anything but easy. She was once hit by a car in Romania and later moved to Italy with a family. Her life has sadly changed hands, and countries, more than once. After losing her home, she spent around a year living on the streets before finally finding safety at the shelter. She underwent surgery, which resulted in her losing a leg, but she recovered with quiet strength and resilience.

She is very good on the lead and enjoys calm, steady walks. Maya is good with cats but would prefer to be the only dog in the home, as she enjoys having her people to herself. She would be best suited to a home with teenagers or adults, where things are calm and predictable.

Maya isn’t a big barker, though she may bark at the fence if other dogs pass by. She would suit a quiet home, ideally with someone who is around during the day and happy to sit with her and keep her company. She is very much a “people dog” and thrives on closeness and reassurance.

Despite having only three legs, Maya is strong, adaptable, and independent - she may take a few days to settle into new surroundings, but once she does, her loyalty shines through. She has survived abandonment, injury, and life on the streets, yet all she wants now is a peaceful home where she can finally rest, feel safe, and be loved.

Maya has already lost so much. What she deserves now is a soft bed, a gentle routine, and someone who will choose her - exactly as she is.
